About the business

Family Success Matters was established in 2005 to deliver the Family Start programme in south Auckland and Franklin. We now run one of the largest Family Start contracts in New Zealand and take great pride in the cultural diversity of our staff and the diverse cultural frameworks we use to deliver our social services. Family Start is a child-centred, intensive home visiting programme that focuses on improving children's health, learning and relationships, family/whanau circumstances, environment and safety. The key assessment and planning components of the programme measure progress as the whanau work towards independence and self-fulfilment.

 

About the role

Social Service Practitioners are facilitators of change who place child safety at the forefront.

You will be working with families directly in their homes to develop their strengths and parenting capabilities by developing individualised family plans and safety plans if required.

Children are at the heart of all we do, so you will be focused on the children's well-being, including the adequacy of care, their physical and emotional health, and age appropriate development.

Skills and experience

Essential:

  • Level 7 Degree in Social Work or humanities

  • Social Work registered (or working towards)

  • Current full driver's license

  • Meets Vulnerable Children's Act 2014 criteria to work with vulnerable children

Preferred:

  • Experience in family or home visiting services

  • Resilient, keen to learn, with strong planning and time management skills

  • Works effectively across different cultures and community networks

  • High standard of case noting and documentation skills

  • Advocacy skills and skills in accessing resources

  • Knowledge/awareness of Child Protection skills
