To participate in the Family Start programme families need to be referred by an agency or service that works with families. This could be a GP, Midwife, Well Child Nurse, Hospital Maternity Service, Plunket Nurse, Neo Natal Unit, Early Childhood Centre/Kohanga Reo and Community and Family Agencies and Services. Families who self refer will be asked to make contact with any agency or service working with them to make the referral.

Families must consent to the referral and meet the referral criteria and assessment. All referrals received are advised in a follow up letter as to the next steps of the process and outcome of the assessment.
